June

Where to head during June when visiting Latin America or South East Asia

June trends for South East Asia

Dragon Boat Racing (In 2022 the 3rd of June) is observed officially and unofficially all over east Asia but the most spectacular examples are seen in Singapore, Hong Kong and Macao with boat races taking centre stage in the main water channels in those locations. Of course vantage points are well set up in these city states with prior booking needed as many people flood into these cities to witness a cultural phenomenon as well as social.

April trends for Latin America

Rumour has it that Carlos Gardel was born in Tacuarembó, Uruguay, he was in fact born in France and taken to Argentina as a young child but Tacuarembó holds a Tango festival in June in his honour, 2022 dates have not been released yet.

Medellín in Colombia also holds an internationally recognised tango festival that takes places around the middle of the month and can assume an al fresco dimension as Medellín retains balmy weather all year round.

Inti Raymi or a celebration of the Sun) is held on June the 24th and is a major festival and a perfect excuse to visit Peru and to head to Cusco to take in what is a window on Peruvian culture today, of course booking well in advance is needed as this is well attended, perhaps not so much after the ravages of Covid.

Being June in the high Andes I would advise you to take a coat and jumper at that time of year especially after sunset as it is technically the southern winter.

The 24th of June is also the feast day of John the Baptist and throughout Latin America there are processions in towns and cities to venerate his memory to believers.
