Rafting on the Mekong, enjoying a sumptuous meal in Hanoi – here is Indochina

Cambodia and Laos were tied together by the French for 67 years, now it’s mainly Laos where you’ll see vestiges of French rule, moreover the civilizations around Angkor and Luang Prabang are the draws that both countries offer to those wishing to extend their cultural horizons

Angkor is an 11th century ruin embedded in the surrounding jungles and is a marvel of architectural masonry and the creativity of the people at that time. Cambodia’s culture, resplendent within the royal palaces of Phnom Penh, are the match of those in Bangkok

Laos is a relative newcomer on the world heritage map and Luang Prabang the old capital of the country holds cultural pride of place with many Buddhist temples crammed into a relatively small locale. If you are open-minded and curious, the numerous monks tend to be just as curious about you too, remember they are used to people dressed in saffron! The northern reaches of Laos are fascinating places peopled by tribes barely in synch with central government. The south of the country has a soothing calmness around the areas of Pakse and Champassak

The historical centre of Venice is made up of six districts (sestiere): Cannaregio, Dorsoduro, Castello, Santa Croce, San Polo and San Marco. The Dorsoduro district also incorporates the Island of Guidecca Each of the six sestiere has its own unique character and specific attractions.
